A complete application consists of the online application form (below), 2 character references, and 1 language reference (see online application form for reference form information) and a Financial Aid appication (if applicable).  Please note that it is not possible to save data entered in the online form and come back to it later; therefore, we recommend that students type their applications in a separate document (e.g. MS Word), and then copy and paste their responses into the fields on the form.

Medical School Interviews

We understand that many of our participants are in the process of applying to medical school and that interviews are an important part of this process. Briefly returning to the U.S. once or twice during the program for interviews is allowed and will not affect your experience with the Somos Hermanos Student Immersion Program. Most students elect to schedule their interviews during their free week mid-way through the program or during Phase 3 of the program so as not to miss any language instruction.

TIPS for filling out the APPLICATION FORM:

1. It is not possible to save your application and return to it later.  Therefore, we recommend that you fill out the application form in a separate MSWORD document and copy and paste your answers into the application form.

2. In the “Needs and Preferences” category of your application, please indicate if you are available for both the Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 sessions. If you are available for only one session, please indicate this.

3. Please include a non-university email account unless your university account will not expire after graduation.

4. LANGUAGE REFERENCE: This is required. If you are UNABLE to contact your language instructor you must send (1) us a copy of your transcripts that includes your language grades (scan a copy of your transcripts and email them to us at info@somoshermanos.org), and (2) ask someone who is familiar with your language skills to fill out the form. Please note that if you have never studied Spanish you may use a language reference of another language.

5. CHARACTER REFERENCES: We prefer that the references be filled out by someone who knows you professionally (boss, manager, etc.) or scholastically (professor, coach, group leader, advisor, etc.).  References from friends are family members are not encouraged.

6. Please have your references send their forms via EMAIL to: info@somoshermanos.org.  Please note that EMAIL is preferred over fax or hard copies as we process all applications electronically.

7. If you are applying for Financial Aid, your Financial Aid application must be submitted by the deadline to complete your file.

8. Students from any university who have completed undergraduate education and plan to continue to graduate school in the health care professions (e.g. medicine, nursing, dentistry, physical therapy, public health, etc...) are eligible to participate in this program.  Somos Hermanos will also consider applications from students currently enrolled in a graduate program on a case-by-case basis.

9. All program fees and deposits will be made payable to the USC Somos Hermanos SIP and will be processed directly by the University.
